I want to join an October art challenge this year, but to prevent burnout I will do it lowkey this year. I will be making sketch and a short blog post on an OC pair of mine, Fray and Sirius.
This week's prompt is "First Meeting" so I will introduce my OCs so people can meet them!
Both Fray and Sirius originate from a planet in a parallel world named "Land of Stars" inhabitated by human-like alien being with appearance based on stars called "Star People". Star People are just like average humans, just that there are a section of them who rule Land of Stars with powerful magic dubbed as "Deities"
Fray (Formerly Freya)
Pronouns: She/they
Gender Identity: Demigirl (femme)
Orientation: Bisexual
Star: Blue star
Fray is an average 9-5 office worker working at Sirius' administration office. She has a shy, timid, and unconfident personality and is kind of a crybaby. She's unhappy with her job, but is too scared to quit and find another job.
Fray's low self-esteem is caused by a past she doesn't remember but subsconsciously feels. In the past timeline, Fray was a deity of Land Of Stars and Sirius' only friend under the name Freya. Sirius betrayed Freya and not only took her role, but also forcefully renamed Freya into Fray. For exchange, Sirius with their newfound deity power made it that Fray would exist and find happiness in the new timeline and every alternate universe, even though she will always work as an office worker in every single life. Not that Fray knows about that fact due to the new timeline resetting her memories and identity, however.
I probably cook with Fray's background but honestly, her lore is built handwave after handwave. Basically I just wrote it so that my decisions with making Fray an office worker in every universe and my player character in almost every game I play make sense LOL. I just like minimum wage worker characters.
Sirius
Pronouns: They/them
Gender Identity: Agender
Orientation: Aroace
Star: White star
One of several deities in Land Of Stars. Unlike other deities, they tend to hide themself in their chamber. They're uninterested in everything, trying to find amusement in each of their project. They're also distant to everyone and shows no interest in connecting with others. It could be said that Sirius has schizoid personality disorder? But I haven't researched enough. That being said, Sirius is oddly attached to Fray.
Sirius is the reason of why is Fray a multiverse being trapped in her status quo. Sirius and Fray were friends in the past timeline where Fray was the deity Freya. One day, Freya blurted in Sirius that she thought an ordinary life would be nice, being a powerful deity. Those words made Sirius think that Freya wanted to be human, thus devising a plan to take away Freya's godliness. Sirius, being a brilliant but aloof scientist, secretly studied the workings of deities. On a fateful day, Sirius came and took Fray's powers for themself, making Sirius a deity and Freya an ordinary person in the new timeline. Sirius used the remaining power Freya had to make her exist in every timeline and renamed her Fray, an nickname Sirius gave to her.
Creator's Notes
Despite only actively posting about OCs recently, I have been developing Fray and Sirius' lore since 2023.
Fray has always been my OC since 2020 during Covid to cope with fatphobia, hence her being a fat girl. She was initially my OC for my Mahotsukai No Yakusoku (Promise of Wizard, Mahoyaku) yume ship under the name Grey / Gertrude.
Eventually I made an OC based on Grey's design as self-insert for the same series with the name Fray. Fray has always been made rather plump as she was created with the intention to cope against my parents' fatphobic remarks (I gained considerable amount of weight during the COVID pandemic). But it's last year that I made Fray chubbier.
Proto Fray
Due to changes in my identity, Fray eventually got reworked again as a regular OC instead of self-insert. And Fray being a multiverse being means I can go wild with her designs and concepts. It's fun!
I never drew Sirius before aside of doodles I drew in a skethbook I threw away.. but I also have had concepts about them being Fray's pair since I had the idea of Fray being a former goddess.
The initial idea was to have them being lovers and Freya being a star alien goddess that pass away in early age (because she's based on a blue star), Sirius went through hell to revive Fray at the cost of their own existence in the multiverse. I then kept the idea but made their relationship more queerplatonic in nature.
I changed the plot into a story of betrayal because I find it more interesting that way? But Sirius' character were rewritten, so I thought, "Sirius wouldn't be interested in a relationship!!"; hence the decision to make them "just" friends. (Note: wording this is hard because I'm an aromantic with passionate hate for amatonormative mindset LOL. This isn't meant to be amatonormative, Sirius is just that kind of person and aroace who doesn't give a fuck for commited relationships)
That's it for this weekly OCtober's blog post!
